Helping Your Photographer Capture Your Perfect Winter Wedding

Even the best wedding photographer won’t be able to photograph a winter wedding flawlessly without getting some help from their clients.

Unlike summer weddings, that are more vibrant and offer natural light for a longer time, winter weddings require more effort and efficiency on the photographer’s part.

More than that, they require their clients to make some smart decisions so that nothing offsets the arrangement of the otherwise beautiful occasion.

Here, we offer a few details on how you can help your photographer.

Set Your Photography Session at Noon

Before the ceremony would be preferable option. If you want to take advantage of the soft winter sunlight, you have to be willing to start the session around 1:30PM. If you’re comfortable enough with seeing each other before the ceremony, inform the photographer so that they can be prepared to take some first look shots as well.

Embrace the Winter Season…

When planning your winter wedding, embrace the elements that make it so beautiful. Instead of going with a basic black-and-white theme, take advantage of your surroundings and set up a complete winter wonderland. There are many decorations available, as well as themed trinkets, dinnerware and more. It will also give your photographer the chance to be more creative when taking separate shots of the venue and decorations.

…But Have Some Colors Here and There

Winter themes don’t necessarily need to have black, white and grey themes. Winter is supposed to be comfortable and serene, so use that as your inspiration. Add some green foliage as decoration or go bold with your theme and add some holiday-specific décor. Or just be simplistic and make it cozy and romantic. For food and drinks, offer winter-themed cocktails like hot chocolate and spiked eggnog, and choose comfort cuisine instead of an intricate 5-course meal.

Get a Photo-Friendly Venue

Winter usually has weaker sunlight, and if there’s a chance of rain and winds, that may cause problems, since photographers love to rely on natural sunlight. Your venue must have proper lighting and some discreet and stylish spots so you can have some bride and groom photographs. [/flo_image_text]

Dress According to the Weather

Another obvious factor, but you’ll be surprised by how many people tend to overlook it.

Wear winter boots and keeps scarves and mittens at hand to cover up during the photography session. If you can, incorporate it with your wedding look. For the ladies, try to go with subtle and soft makeup, rather than bright and warm. You may wear bold colors, but they shouldn’t clash with your dress.
