Lisa and Scott’s Calgary Charbar wedding at Simmons Building.

Late night after wedding party: Midtown Kitchen & Bar

Q: How did you met?

A: We met at a boxing gym in 2009. Scott joined with his brother and his friend. We did boxing classes together all the time. Eventually I was invited to a Christmas party at Scott’s house. I attended and had the best time; I had never seen a house party like that before – it was bumping! We had our first date shortly after that – Scott invited me to dinner – and the rest is history!

Q: How did he propose?
A:We were on vacation in Australia. We were on a catamaran out on the ocean. We were with several friends on the boat. Scott completely surprised me. He pretended to be a little too intoxicated on tequila (he was doing shots of water, but we were all drinking white tequila, so he had me fooled). He asked me to come dance with him at the front of the boat. I didn’t really want to – I wanted to play cards with our friends – plus he was acting drunk; I thought I was going to have to take care of him.At the front of the boat, he pulls out the ring, from his Speedo no less, and gets down on one knee. I was floored and kept saying “no way”. After getting over my shock, of course I said “yes”! Our friends were there to celebrate with us immediately after.
Q: Why did you choose Charbar and Midtown Bar to host your wedding?

A: Charbar for the food (it was AMAZING). Midtown because we know the staff very well. Our favorite servers and bartenders worked for us that night. We knew they would let us plan whatever we wanted and party the night away.

Q: What are your favourite memories from your wedding?

A: First, the speeches. So heartfelt, and I just felt so much love.Secondly, the band at Midtown. We hired Eve Hell and the Razors. We didn’t burden them with any requests; just let them do their thing. They kept the party going and the energy at max, even when the dance floor wasn’t packed.Third, dancing with my new husband! A particular moment of joy and laughter is when he hoisted me up on his shoulders and spun me around. I held on for dear life and it was so fun!

Q: Any fun/special stories to share or someone you want to thank?

A: Everyone! Our family and friends were lovely, and came through for us all day long. We also had some particular fun during our limo rides with the bridal party, going from one venue to the other – just a great atmosphere – drinks and singing along to our favorite songs – our limo driver with Ambassador limos was awesome!
