Jieun and Devin Korean&Chinese Wedding at Calgary Al Azhar Shrine Centre

Q: What are your favourite memories from your wedding?

A: Our entrance was on point with Devin catching my cupid’s arrow. This was a super cute way to open the reception! Speeches are definitely number one. Those emotional moments are just unforgettable. Also, traditional ceremonies both Korean and Chinese were absolutely outstanding experience!

Q: Why did you choose Canada day as your wedding day?

A: Canada Day 2014 was our second time meeting and it was actually the first day we got to talk and know each other. Then we watched Canada Day fireworks at the balcony of our matchmakers’ condo at the time. Shortly after, we started dating in August. Then 2 years later, on Canada Day 2016 during the fireworks, Devin proposed at the same balcony where we watched the fireworks together for the first time. So we thought it would be meaningful to get married on Canada day in 2017.

Q: Tell us how you first met

A: Two of our best friends (they are married now) Crystal and Regent were our matchmakers. I was friends with Crystal and Devin was friends with Regent. I was a new grad at the time in the spring of 2014 and was seeking career advice from professionals. I heard later that Devin was bugging Regent to introduce girls so he can start dating. So they thought we should meet together but for some reason the first few times they set up meetings, I ended up ditching them every time. Anyhow, another meet up was set and believe it or not, I was extremely sick. Throwing up all day but I just couldn’t ditch them anymore. So I dragged myself to go out looking like piece of crap and met them. Obviously, my first impression on Devin wasn’t exactly the prettiest, but we secondly met on Canada Day 2014 and actually started to get to know each other since then.

Q: How did he propose?

A: He proposed on the balcony of our friend’s condo at the time during Canada Day fireworks in 2016. This balcony was a very meaningful spot as we watched our first Canada Day fireworks together in 2014, the day we actually got to know each other.

Q: Any fun/special stories to share or someone you want to thank?

A: We want to sincerely thank everyone for choosing our wedding over 150th Canada Day festivities this year. We had families and friends all the way from South Korea, Hong Kong, Ethiopia, the States, Toronto, Vancouver and Edmonton, just to name a few. Our wedding parties were beyond amazing and so helpful, we couldn’t have done this without them.  We felt overwhelming love and support on one of the most special day in our lives. Also, thank you Ping and Kenny for capturing our day, Devin and I had nothing to worry about and everything was done so perfectly, even from our engagement photoshoot. Your professionalism hasn’t gone unnoticed, thank you.
